The initials YCH stand for 'Your Character Here'.
It's a special kind of commission where an artist creates a base/ pose/ scene featuring a stand-in figure for sale. This is often sold at a set price or set up for auction. Once it's sold, the buyer's character will be drawn in place of the stand-in figure.
Here's an example from MistMiav to illustrate this further, featuring the YCH auction on the left and the completed YCH featuring the buyer's character on the right.
No. Line art or bases that are part of a YCH commission offered by an artist are not bases that can be used by others either for free or for a fee. They are meant solely for the use of the original artist.
Bases on DeviantArt that can be used by others (either for personal or commercial use) are usually titled or clearly marked as free to use (F2U/ FTU) or pay to use (P2U/ PTU) bases. Even then, not all artists allow their bases to be used for YCH commissions. So, ensure you read artists' Terms of Service (ToS) beforehand to confirm.
A set price YCH usually has a fixed price that you can pay the artist to buy the YCH commission and have it drawn featuring a character of your choice.
An auction YCH usually has a starting bid (SB) price, which refers to the minimum amount that needs to be offered by an interested buyer. Other interested buyers then can continue bidding the minimum increment (MI) amount until the auction period is over or someone offers the auto buy (AB) price.
Keep in mind that often there may be more than one AB price. In such cases, the higher AB price usually includes more art or a more stylised end result than the lower AB price.
A YCH with limited slots or a single slot means that the base for the YCH commission will be reused a limited number of times or not at all. This makes them more unique, and potentially more expensive. Often times, auction YCH or very complex YCH are offered only to a single buyer.
A YCH with unlimited slots is exactly the opposite. They are reused as many times as the artist wishes to. While they are just as lovely, they may not be as unique. The plus side is that they are potentially less expensive, as a result.
Here's an example from DragonitaVioleta to illustrate this further, with the auction YCH with single slots on the left, and the YCH with unlimited slots on the right.
Like any other commission, artists post their YCH commission to their DeviantArt galleries and promote it through relevant and dedicated groups like CRAdoptables. Interested buyers can then follow the process involved in purchasing the YCH commission (set price/ auction).
Once you have successfully purchased the YCH commission, you will need to provide details of your character you'd like to see painted in place of the stand-in figure. The remainder of the process is similar to a regular commission, and can vary from artist to artist.
The type/ genre of art is entirely dependent on the artist offering the YCH commission, but there's a vast variety that one can find on DeviantArt. This includes traditional art and digital art, as well as full illustrations in a realistic, anime/ manga, and chibi style, to name a few.
While both refer to purchasing customised pieces of art, YCH commissions do differ from regular commissions in some ways:
In a regular commission, every aspect of the work is created entirely from scratch in keeping with the buyer's request and choices. On the other hand, in a YCH commission, the buyer purchases a pre-drawn sketch featuring a stand-in figure in a particular pose/ scene. The buyer's character is then drawn in place of the stand-in figure.
YCH commissions often are less expensive in comparison to regular commissions. This is because the artist has already composed the basic setting/ pose in to which the buyer's character will be inserted.
Regular commissions are not purchased through auctions, however YCH commissions may be offered via an auction format.
The buyer typically has a greater say/ flexibility in a regular commission. However, in a YCH commission, there's comparatively lesser scope for the artist to request changes/ edits since the pose/ setting was predefined.
Though both are art that can be purchased, YCH and adoptables are different and serve different purposes.
An adoptable is the design of a character (humanoid/ feral/ anthropomorphic) or item (clothes/ setting/ weapon/ accessory) that an artist creates to sell. Once bought, the buyer can then use these "adopted" designs as they see fit, in keeping with the original artist's ToS. Often buyers will use these adopted designs for their roleplaying or narratives, among other uses.
A YCH commission, in contrast, involves a buyer purchasing a predefined setting/ pose in which the artist will then draw the buyer's existing character.
The rules for copyright and redistribution of YCH commissions vary from artist to artist. There are, however, some things to keep in mind:
The artist retains copyright to the artwork, even after it's bought and even if it features the buyer's character. This means they are free to showcase it in their own portfolio/ gallery.
While some artists may charge a fee for commercial use or redistribution of their YCH commissions, others may deny it altogether. Typically, however, buyers can use the YCH commission for personal use. This includes displaying it in their DeviantArt gallery/ profile or social media with due credit to the artist.
As for modification, some artists may allow it, whereas others may not.
It's recommended to gain clarity on this by communicating with the artist before you bid on/ purchase a YCH commission.
Since it's a type of commission, anyone can offer it. Provided, of course, that you are creating your own pose/ setting/ base for it and fulfilling the commission after purchase yourself. If you're using a premade base to offer the commission, ensure you read the artist's ToS to confirm they allow such use.
A good place to start is the group, which is a hub for all YCH and adoptables-related art.

Joining in the Self Survey challenge TheLaurenVerse started over at Community. I don't think I share a lot about myself in general, so I thought this would be a fun little exception :)
It's a name, as you can tell🥲 It's a name that an old friend of mine came up with/ heard at some point. When we first started talking, he and I began writing a story together about a detective trying to hunt down an oblivious psychopathic serial killer. The detective was Alexander Paupoff, whose POV chapters were written by my friend.
I'm quite adventurous with food, and I love trying out new cuisines. But here's what I could eat/ drink everyday forever, without complaint:
Tea and lemon tarts
My grandma's stew and rice
Grilled fish and winter veggies
Ramen
Kimbap
Kadhi chawal
Waffles
Theo.
I wanted a tea shop and bakery that was also a library/ bookshop overlooking the mountains in Darjeeling where my co-workers were just giant doggos.
I keep wanting to learn new things always, whether it's how to make soap or bake better or write... it's never ending. Right now, it's hand-lettering/ calligraphy
